Road trip, Holla

Yup, tomorrow I'm headed for a much needed mini getaway. I've never been to Chicago, but I hear it's a pretty cool city, so I'll give you my input when I get back LOL. Before I go, I just wanted to leave you with a little something.
I did this a while back and have totally forgotten to post it. She's modeled after the lovely Lily Donaldson. The girl has a gorgeous, unique face, and the "unusual" aspects make her really hard to draw. Eegad... I am happy with how this drawing turned out of her (it looks better than some of my others haha). Any who, like it, love it, or hate it, try not to pick her apart too much, because it'll just drive me more nuts if you do haha. Adieu...

  1. Have a wonderful trip, Alex! (No sleeping pills on the plane, hear?;-)

The drawing above is lovely; haunting, almost sad in a way. There is such a uniqueness to your pieces where the right-hand side of the faces is always slightly asymmetrical and off-kilter, creating such an impression...
    Love it!
Must sleep...totally burned out from Fashion Week.;-)
Enjoy Chicago and have a great trip!

  2. Hmm...I have never noticed. I mean, things always look a little off to me, but I can't tell if they're really off or if I'm just being anal haha. I always had a bad habit of just hating my work if it's not "perfect" or just pick it apart so badly, that by the time I'm through with it, I can't tell if there's something wrong with it or if I'm just being anal. Staring at it so long kind of muddies my perception on things. By just posting things and letting people see it, even when I'm not happy, helps me to let go and just create, and not focus on the negatives so much. It's really helped me to just let my guard down and not get all bent out of shape. I do appreciate the feedback too by the way :)
Seriously though, I wonder if there's a science to it? A lot of the "big" impressionist artists had eye problems or dibilities (like arthritis), and it's interesting to see how those things translated into their work.
Plus, lately I've just been picking models with some really different features, making them really hard to draw lol
