Fishies!

Not a new piece, it's actually one I did a few years ago for a painting class. Thought I'd share it just for the sake of posting something. How I hate not having pictures to look at lol.
The assignment was to do a still life- nothing against anyone who enjoys doing them, but I haaate doing still lifes. So boring! So I decided to do create a "still life" with still objects, yet present them as kinetic forms. I was inpired by these amazing koi fish ornaments I saw some years ago, and decided to use them as my inspiration. Assignment fulfilled, and my sanity preserved. yay me. haha

  2. Thank you, Emily :)
ewww high school art... all the still lifes... BUT fortunately, after that year of nothing BUT still lifes, i changed schools, and my NEW art teacher let the artsy kids do whatever they wanted instead of the class assignments. Would I say we got "special treatment"?? Yeah!!! haha. Oh but man those were some of the best and greatest moments of high school! lol

  6. The first semester of my freshman year of college we had to take still life classes for both drawing and painting. Ugh, was not the most inspiring semester to hop into for college. But our drawing instructor made it worth while, she was absolutely amazing.

I loved this painting when I first saw it on your site. The bright colors and gold running through out the piece. Are they coy?

  7. Thanks Andrea :)
yes, they were based off of these really cool koi ornaments I had seen at Urban Outfitters years ago. I'm glad you can pick up on the gold too- metallics are hard to photograph, b/c they're either super reflective and cause a glare or they just look yellow in pics.

That freshman year sounded horrible!! haha. It's funny b/c I am not at ALL a 'people person,' but the human figure is my favorite thing to capture. Are you anything like that? lol

  8. Yes and No to the question about being a people person. One side I'm quite, shy and like sticking to a few of my favorite people...or just be alone. Then on the other I work part time at a pub. And in that environment I'm forced to be more outgoing. Kinda fun actually, get to play someone else for a few hours. Either way the human figure is my favorite thing to capture too. I can sit for hours and people watch

  9. Katie: thank you:)

Andrea: Seriously- this is really weird to me how similar we sound haha, whether it's artistically speaking or with people. I'm not a bartender, but i'm a "bar"ista at a coffeeshop haha. and likewise, have to kiss butts, i mean, be friendly and outgoing haha. I love people watching too lol
